Mott Skirt
The Mott Skirt from Rachel Comey is a high-waisted, pull-on pencil skirt in Rachel Comey's water-resistant taffeta. This taffeta was made using a warp and weft print technique, and then woven together to create an intentional blur effect. The skirt features side slip pockets and side vents.
The Personals Print was created in collaboration with The New York Review of Books. The print draws on archived personal ads from the 1970s and ’80s.
These ads are collaged and recontextualized across two distinct fabrics. One version retains the crispness of type and the charm of inked print. The second takes a more experimental approach: the text is printed separately on both the warp and weft threads before weaving. This process results in a beautifully blurred, ghostly effect — a visual metaphor for the fragmentary and elusive nature of human connection.
