On Repeat: The T-Shirt Edit
What was once designed as an undergarment has transformed into one of the most iconic items in all of our wardrobes - the humble t-shirt.
Ubiquitous as it is, the t-shirt is still quite young in the world of apparel. The word t-shirt wasn't widely used until the 1920s, helped in part by F. Scott Fitzgerald referencing it in his book This Side of Paradise, and even then, it still wasn't being worn as a piece in its own right.
Then came Marlon Brando and James Dean in the 1950s, and fashion was changed forever! The t-shirt not only became an item of clothing to be worn on it's own - it became inextricably linked with counter-culture and rebellion. It was a natural progression for this item of rebellion to start saying something of its own accord, and soon enough slogan and graphic t-shirts were born - most commonly associated with 1970s punk culture.
And now here we are in 2025! The t-shirt is more embedded in our wardrobes than ever. The most fluid of garments - entirely dependent on how you want to wear it. We love our t-shirts at The Standard Store, and everyone wears theirs differently! Keep scrolling for some staff inspiration or have a look online now at both our mens and womens ranges.
